Ron Norman was a reporter, columnist and editor before going to work for the British Columbia government. When he left government he was deputy minister and head of communications – one of the highest positions in the public service. Ron lives in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island.

Ron Norman was a reporter, columnist and editor for two decades on community newspapers around British Columbia before going to work for the B.C. government.
In his 11 years in government Ron worked at every level, eventually becoming deputy minister and head of communications. In that role he provided communications counsel to the premier, cabinet and deputy ministers, and led a staff of more than 200.
Ron lives with his wife, Joan Young, in Brentwood Bay, a small seaside community just outside of Victoria on Vancouver Island.

For two decades Ron Norman worked as a reporter, columnist and editor on community newspapers around B.C., including The Castlegar News, Salmon Arm Observer, Rossland Summit and Sidney Review. For a time, he was also a regular contributor to CBC Radio’s Kelowna morning program.
Ron left journalism in 2000 to take a job with the B.C. government. In his 12 years in government Ron worked at every level, eventually becoming deputy minister and head of communications. In that role he provided communications counsel to the premier, cabinet and deputy ministers, and led a staff of more than 200.
Ron has also been actively involved in the community, serving as chair of The Castlegar and District Public Library and two terms as a school trustee. Most recently, he provided communications support for The Didi Society, a Victoria-based non-profit that works to empower women globally through fair trade and to educate youth locally to be social justice change-makers.
Born in Prince George, British Columbia and raised in Vancouver, Ron studied at the University of B.C. before graduating from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a BA in English. He also has a Master’s of Education from Simon Fraser University.
Slouching Towards Innocence is Ron’s debut novel.
Ron lives with his wife, Joan Young, in Brentwood Bay. They have two adult daughters, Lauren and Julia.
